Following last years successful private view event – we were asked back to play at the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne for the launch party of the Sussex Open 2018. With great art from local artists, delicious Italian food from Amare Street Food, a late bar and good vibes all round we had a brilliant time.
We were very privileged to be asked to curate a playlist of tracks on 7″ vinyl to accompany the brand new exhibition Now, Today, Tomorrow and Always at Eastbourne’s Towner Art Gallery (http://www.townereastbourne.org.uk) opening on 21 July 2017.
The exhibition explores how popular culture, and its vast compendium of imagery, words and materials has influenced recent contemporary art. Encompassing painting, film, photography, sculpture and installation, it features artworks from the Arts Council Collection and Towner Collection by Fiona Banner, Phil Collins, Jeremy Deller, Graham Gussin, Anthea Hamilton, Jim Lambie, Mark Leckey, Mario Rossi, Kelly Richardson, Ross Sinclair, John Stezaker and Matt Stokes.
The exhibition struck a particularly relevant chord with the music that we collect and cherish. We connected with many of the artists re-imagination of popular culture. In particular the way that the artists have taken minute detailed snapshots of music and film references to create striking new visualisations.
In translating this into our passion of collecting records we searched through our crates to find tracks that would fit into this cut up, mashed up, re-imagined vision of our entertainment culture.
We will be performing a 2 hour set at the Private view on 21 July 2017 from 8-10pm and a spotify playlist of 10 of the tracks included in our set will be released afterwards.
