25ThC spoke to our favourite DJ/Production duo. They are big 45s fans like ourselves. Check it out.
We were very privileged to be asked to curate a playlist of tracks on 7″ vinyl to accompany the brand new exhibition Now, Today, Tomorrow and Always at Eastbourne’s Towner Art Gallery (http://www.townereastbourne.org.uk) opening on 21 July 2017.
The exhibition explores how popular culture, and its vast compendium of imagery, words and materials has influenced recent contemporary art. Encompassing painting, film, photography, sculpture and installation, it features artworks from the Arts Council Collection and Towner Collection by Fiona Banner, Phil Collins, Jeremy Deller, Graham Gussin, Anthea Hamilton, Jim Lambie, Mark Leckey, Mario Rossi, Kelly Richardson, Ross Sinclair, John Stezaker and Matt Stokes.
The exhibition struck a particularly relevant chord with the music that we collect and cherish. We connected with many of the artists re-imagination of popular culture. In particular the way that the artists have taken minute detailed snapshots of music and film references to create striking new visualisations.
In translating this into our passion of collecting records we searched through our crates to find tracks that would fit into this cut up, mashed up, re-imagined vision of our entertainment culture.
We will be performing a 2 hour set at the Private view on 21 July 2017 from 8-10pm and a spotify playlist of 10 of the tracks included in our set will be released afterwards.
25ThC has interviewed Cockney Nutjob one of our favourite producers to find out more about how he got his name, his forthcoming releases and his upcoming shows.
The brand new single from DJ Format and Abdominal has just been released on 7″ vinyl. We were lucky enough to pick up a signed copy at their superb Brighton gig last month. The flip is “Diamond Hammer” also from their new album. You can purchase it now from https://rocafortrecords.bandcamp.com/album/were-back-b-w-diamond-hammer
WE had a very special 45’s only event at the Printworks, Hastings on saturday 10 June 2017. We invited along the legendary UK Hip Hop Producer and DJ Evil Ed to spin a few 45s from his collection. Joey Deez head of Village Live Records brought a 7’s box full of classic breaks and exclusives. Mr Thing also popped in to check out the tunes.
25ThC recently recorded a Dub and Reggae mix for the Premium Blend Show on Hailsham FM. It was recorded using all 7′ vinyl 45’s and features Horace Andy, The Hempolics, Protoje and more.
We had a real blast at our Hastings residency at the Printworks last Saturday night. Thanks to all those who came down and had a boogie. Music by Evil Ed – “It’s a K.O.”. Ed will be joining us to play at the next Printworks event on Saturday 10 June 2017.
